The Garden City High School Drama Department’s fall musical A Gentleman’s Guide to Love and Murder by Steven Lutvak and Robert L. Freedman has been selected to present as one of the Mainstage productions at the Kansas Thespian Festival. This year’s festival will be January 5-7, 2023.
Only five schools from across the state are asked to bring a show to the festival to perform each year. This honor is equivalent of winning state for the theater program.
The students will perform in front of a crowd of nearly 1,700 theater students and teachers from around the state. The department will present the musical on January 5th in the Century II Concert Hall in Wichita, Kansas.
There will be up to 43 students from GCHS that will attend the event, which is the largest group of students that the school has ever had present at a festival. Students will be able to choose from nearly 200 workshop sessions taught by college theater professors, high school drama teachers, and guest artists from around the country. Colleges bring displays to promote their theater programs. Students compete in Individual Events for a chance to qualify for the International Thespian Festival in June.
The GCHS Drama Department will host a virtual donation drive on their website to help cover the cost of travel to state. They are looking for individuals and businesses to sponsor students at various levels from $10 to $165. People can view the various donation levels by visiting here.
